As a co-worker, you will work alongside our experienced team, helping them with daily tasks whilst learning a wide variety of new work and life skills.
​  Over time, you will be able to undertake many of these activities yourself.

​Agriculture

Crafts

Land Work - removing weeds, spraying fields, trimming hedges, fencing and gates

Cattle - our Shetland cattle need observing every day.  They need feeding in the winter.  

Sheep - our North Ronaldsay sheep need checking every day.  We often move them from field to field, trim their hooves three times a year and sheer them once a year. 

Chickens - our flock of chickens need checking and feeding every day. Their eggs need collecting and then have to be graded, boxed and labelled ready for selling.

Selling - frozen beef and lamb needs weighing, packing and delivering most  weeks 

Wool preparation - cleaning and washing the sheep's fleece

Wet Felting - making a range of woollen good such as slippers, bags and decorative items.

Carding - using drum carders or hand carders to create long fibres for sale or further processing

Spinning - using the carded wool to make a yarn for knitting, crocheting or weaving

Weaving - we have a variety of looms to create anything from a simple decoration to a complete rug!

Selling - our yarn, throws, carded wool and fleeces are sold locally and globally through Etsy and at markets.  They all need weighing, packing and posting.

​Horticulture

Gardens - we have one existing garden with raised beds and two poly tunnels on a quarter of an acre.  We are now preparing two acres for next year as well as locating a large new poly tunnel

Sowing Seeds - all our vegetables are grown from seed and we make potting mixes and compost to help them germinate in the poly tunnels

Transplanting - when ready, the seedlings are transplanted into the ground

Plant Care - daily jobs such as hoeing, weeding, pruning and applying the biodynamic field sprays

Harvest - a wonderful time picking fruits and leaves and pulling up roots

Cooking - simple ideas on how to cook the produce until our food quality kitchen is ready

Selling - the members of our cooperative can receive a weekly veg box from next year which needs packing, weighing and delivering
