Setting Up a Co-Worker Day Placement
CWe aim to offer a high duty of care to all potential service users (co-workers) through a person-centred approach and our enrolment system has a number of steps to it for anyone interested in becoming a co-worker:
Step 1: An interested individual comes for a visit, ideally with their Carer or Care Manager, to meet our staff, have a look around the farm and see what we do. This normally takes two hours and the conversations enable an understanding of the adults needs, preferences and specific, personal interests. What we offer is explained at this meeting.
Step 2: If the adult would like to apply for a co-worker position they need to complete an Application Form to Become a Co-Worker. It is ideal if our Social Farming Manager, the adult and their Carer or Care Manager can fill this in together as it details which days they would like to attend, how often, what particular activities they are interested in, personal health details, travel information, emotional needs and any special support needed. We can also ensure the personal budget covers the daily fee (including travel and lunch) and that the farm offers a suitably supportive environment for their needs. This forms the basis of an individual learning plan (ILP).
Step 3: Once this is all approved the adult attends a free taster day to fully experience a typical day on the farm.
Step 4: After the free taster day the placement can start and the adult becomes a co-worker. Ideally we look to arrange a minimum of six weeks of weekly attendance. We issue an agreement which is signed by both parties and contains all supporting paperwork from the application and detailing the cost, method of payment and duration of the placement.
Step 5: This first day as a co-worker includes an induction day to explain some of our policies - including health and safety, safeguarding, privacy, code of conduct and equal opportunities.
Step 6: After one month the ILP is reviewed with the evidence gathered, and any changes are made.
Step 7: The ILP is reviewed every two months with the co-worker, farm key worker, carer and appropriate professionals and can be changed as required.
